NaNoWriMo in the Wild

Join the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) this coming November. Wild Child will be including the NaNoWriMo Young Writers Program in a writers intensive that will see participants coming on Thursdays each week for inspiration, motivation, goal setting, encouragement and figuring out the fundamentals of writing a story. Any story.

"It's a fun, seat-of-your-pants writing event where the challenge is to complete an entire novel in just 30 days. For one month, you get to lock away your inner editor, let your imagination take over, and just create!" - NaNoWriMo Website

Participants will set their own word count goals and given the space and time to complete them.

Participants will need to work on the NaNoWriMo challenge at home as it should be completed in small steps done each day.

Following that we will meet every Thursday in November to discuss character development, villains and heroes, conflict, plot twists and working through all the hard stuff. Workshops will be a mix of meetings, media presentations, individual work and group work. Writing time will be supported with prompts and gadgets.

Each time we meet there will be a sprinkling of several activities including:

  • NaNoWriMo support.

    • help set word count/story goals for the challenge

    • time to work on stories individually and with assistance when require

  • Creative Storytelling/Poetry Station

    • free choice activities to work on storytelling skills, character development and dialogue in our classroom.

    • access to our library for reading time

  • Lectures/Video Talks from writers that will inspire and motivate young writers

  • Group games and multimedia activities that encourage creativity and imagination, expand vocabulary and expand on story/poetry elements.

  • Work on Storybird software (including a print out of completed work)

  • Online Classroom access for NaNoWriMo’s Young Writers program so work done at home can be reviewed/shared if desired and for activities and incentives from NaNoWriMo.
